Public schools are largely funded by local property taxes. This means that higher-income areas have more resources for their schools. Low-income communities tend to have fewer resources for public schools. This difference often results in better outcomes for children who come from higher-income communities. Funding for public schools could be based on a different type of taxes, not property taxes.
