Veum's family got her into treatment and she'd been sober for nine years when she and her husband, Ben, decided to have a baby. Motherhood was something she wanted to feel. However, the childbirth process had a higher risk of relapse due to the lack of communication between hospitals and medical staff not necessarily making the best call.
