The Weld County Department of Public Health & Environment conducted a rapid health impact assessment of the East Greeley and Weld County Study Area to establish a baseline community health profile and gather input from community stakeholders to inform planning decisions around a federal grant to promote healthy eating and physical activity. The HIA found that a large proportion of residents in the study area are at risk for adverse health outcomes and that safety and security is a major concern for many residents. The HIA also found that in a portion of the study area, heavy traffic and lack of sidewalks and other infrastructure are barriers to active transportation and contribute to difficulty accessing to fresh foods.
The HIA made several strategy recommendations that include establishing a citizen group to engage the community and solicit feedback as improvements are implemented in the study area, and focusing on the high-risk portion of the population to ensure that potential adverse health impacts are minimized.
